Gina de Alwis heads the Library at the Singapore Institute of Management and is currently driving the Library Vision 2020 project to prepare for the needs of a new generation of learners.
She holds a PhD from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and researched on Information Seeking Behaviour of Managers in a Digital Environment for her thesis. She also holds a Master of Science (Information Studies) from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. A Fellow of the Sri Lanka Library Association she received the Blok Memorial Award for best results in the Final Examination for the Diploma in Library and Information Science. Prior to moving to Singapore in 1991, she held positions in academic and special libraries in Sri Lanka.
Gina de Alwis is a founding member of the Asia Pacific Business School Librarians' Group (APBSLG) and has also served as the group coordinator. Her areas of professional interest include Information seeking behaviour of managers and trends and technologies impacting academic libraries in the 21st century inclusive of roles and competencies of librarians and library spaces; and, adoption of UX studies to enhance library user experiences and sevices. She is also an external examiner for the PhD degree.
To de-stress she practices yoga and is an avid theatregoer.
